T/S Kvartsita in English

Kvartsita was commissioned in 1945 by Höganäsbolaget to ship raw materials for ceramic manufacturing. Originally she was built as a motor sailor galeas. Unfortunately, she quickly became obsolete and was therefore sold to Norway in 1953. The ship was rebuilt there, the masts were replaced by a crane and a wheelhouse was built in the stern. On the west coast of Norway she sailed with various types of cargo, mainly salt and wood. In the early spring of 1986 the För Fulla Segel association bought her and during the following year she was thoroughly renovated and rigged as a schooner (skonare). A school ship was created, hence T/S (Training Ship) in the name.

T/S Kvartsita has visited most ports along the Kattegatt and Skagerrak under the auspices of the association and has also sailed in the Baltic Sea area. She also usually participates in various ship races, such as Nordic Sailing and Tall Ships Race. Tall Ships Race has taken her to Newcastle (in 1993) and Flensburg (in 2000). She has been K-marked by the Swedish Maritime History Museum's Ship Council since 2002 and is also classified as a traditional vessel by the Maritime Inspectorate.

The Association For Full Sails

The Association För Fulla Segel conducts school ship operations and works to advance knowledge of cruise control, navigation, seamanship and ship maintenance. We will create interest in the sea and sailing, promote community and respect for the individual on board and have fun together. Our business is open to anyone, regardless of age or disability, with a focus on young people.

We operate year-round. From May to September we carry out sailing of all kinds: camp schools, class trips, corporate sailing and 50-year-olds. The rest of the year is focused on boat maintenance and crew training. All work is completely non-profit and all money that goes in goes to the maintenance of Kvartsita.

Sail with T/S Kvartsita in the Bohuslän archipelago

The association arranges its own sailing camps for young people, adults and mixed ages. You can also rent Kvartsita for class trips, business kick-offs, team building, weddings, or the like.

You will be able to participate in all activities on board, from hoisting sails and navigating to helping the chef in the galley. This is what is unique about school ships - you are not just a guest, but you are just as much a part of the crew as everyone else on board. Of course, there is still time to lie and sunbathe on the front deck!

For those of you who want a taste of life at sea, it is recommended to follow one of our one-day sailing trips. These last between 9:00 - 16:00 and coffee is included in the price, but bring your own lunch. The age limit to follow is 12 years, from 2 years in the company of adults.

In order to keep up with one-day sailing, only valid home and accident insurance is required.
